DSI work in rural communities for improving the overall well-being and quality of life for the communities. DSI involves implementing initiatives to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water sources, establishing sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices. A number of initiatives have 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 undertaken by the organization to ensure this right. In communities where residents are unable to afford the costs associated with hand pumps, DSI has installed numerous hand pumps. A thorough selection process is followed by DSI in order to ensure that beneficiaries are treated fairly and effectively. It is considered appropriate to install hand pumps in areas with the potential to serve four to five families, providing access to water for at least thirty individuals, with a total dissolved solids (TDS) level below 1000 mg/l, and where affordability is a concern, among other criteria. In addition, DSI work on the sanitation facilities like toilets and hand washing stations helps prevent the spread of diseases and improve community health. Education and awareness campaigns are also conducted to promote hygienic practices such as hand washing, proper waste management, and safe food handling. DSI work on WASH help communities in the significant improvements in health, sanitation, and overall quality of life.
